New Year's Resolutions
Posted on 14 Jan 2010
The New Year is an opportunity for self improvement. And for many that means losing weight.
According to new research from Drinkaware, losing weight is the number one New Year's resolution in the UK. Nearly half of all respondents (48%) said that shedding a few pounds is their top priority.
Getting fit (29%) is this year's second most popular resolution, followed by the less specific "living life to the full" (22%).
Nearly a fifth (18%) have resolved to get out of debt this year and 15% have made a commitment to have more sex. Other popular resolutions include spending more time with family and friends (14%) and drinking less alcohol (14%). Tellingly, nearly half of those who want to cut back on the booze (46%) say they are doing so in an attempt to lose weight.
Chris Sorek, Drinkaware's chief executive, said: "Cutting back on alcohol can be a really effective way of shedding the pounds and getting the most out of life at the same time."
Whether we'll stick to our virtuous resolutions is another matter: nearly a fifth (19%) of those surveyed admitted that they were likely to abandon their efforts by the close of the week!
